CaribWorldNews, NEW YORK, NY, Weds. Nov. 4, 2009: A 38-year-old Trinidad migrant and veteran of the New York Corrections Department has been charged in the fatal death of a pedestrian.
Police claim Damon Padmore, 38, a 12-year veteran of the New York state Corrections Department, struck and killed pedestrian Dorothea Wallace near the intersection of Flatbush Avenue and St. Marks Avenue in Prospect Heights in Brooklyn, NY early Tuesday morning.
Padmore has been arrested and charged so far with driving with a suspended license. He was reportedly on his way to work at the Sing Sing Correctional Facility around 5:20 a.m. Tuesday.
Wallace, a manager at the Macy`s Brooklyn store located on Fulton Street, was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital.
Padmore`s mother, Joyce Padmore, in a tearful interview with ABC Eyewitness news said her son lives in Ossining, but spends most of his time in Brooklyn caring for her.
`He`s very careful,` she said, choking back tears. `That is my shining star, that is my shining star.`
