Now You Can Minor In Cannabis Studies At This University

News Americas, NEWARK, NJ, Fri. Aug. 31, 2018: A New Jersey university is now giving students a chance to minor in marijuana or weed.

Stockton University, in Galloway, Atlantic City, NJ has rolled out its new “Cannabis Studies” minor program, which “offers students a foundation for understanding the burgeoning cannabis industry.”

The minor consists of 5 courses including Introduction to Medical Marijuana (GEN 2347), Cannabis Law (GSS 2198), Internship Preparation (GEN 3XXX, including Cannabis research and basic understanding of small business operations), with opportunities for experiential learning.

Students will be given internship opportunities in a wide-variety of areas in the ganja field including: cultivation, energy efficiency, small business operations, communications, social media, retail, patient research, etc.

“It’s an industry that is developing and certainly there are a lot of possibilities and new jobs,” Kathy Sedia, who is an associate professor of biology at Stockton and coordinator of the program, told WNYC news.

A school official said so far 25 students have signed up for the program, and classes start September 5th.

New Jersey is among the 29 states and the District of Columbia, Guam and Puerto Rico that that currently legalized medical marijuana. In addition, 9 US states have legalized recreational marijuana.
