LIME Celebrates Labor Day Weekend In New York’s Caribbean Diaspora

For the second consecutive year, LIME was among top sponsors of the 44th Annual West Indian Carnival Festival that drew over three million to Eastern Parkway on Labor Day in Brooklyn, U.S.A. on September 5th.  A huge LIME-sponsored float from KARMA made its way down the Parkway as over two dozen LIME girls showed off the company’s colors with rags and shiny costumes and as executives stressed the company’s commitment to the Diaspora is not just short-term but here to stay.

While the LIME float urged fans to send minutes home to family and friends, the message at the company’s booth on the parade route created a buzz, as customers from the Diaspora and over 14 Caribbean islands lined up to take advantage of the 100 bonus credit offered over the weekend to any LIME mobile phone. Among those welcoming the LIME promotion was Jamaican national Caroline Greaves and her daughter, who have been Brooklyn residents for the past thirty years.

“I am thinking of trying their new TopUp plan which gives double credit, you cannot beat this kind of deal,” Greaves said, as the LIME float with a number of costumed clad revelers passed by. “Many of my friends are switching to LIME because they like their affordable rates and products.”

Early on Monday, Regional Head of Sponsorship for LIME, Sheldon Keens-Douglas, spent the morning with Mayor Mike Bloomberg and other city elected officials and business leaders at the annual kick-off breakfast of the West Indian American Day Carnival Association, reiterating the company’s commitment to the Diaspora and organizations like WIADCA.

”We wouldn’t miss it,” he explained. “After our participation last year we knew we would be back. LIME’s presence at the carnival brought the curtains down on a weekend long series of events that included sponsorship of the inaugural Reggae, Rhythm and Blues concert on Sunday, September 4th at Roy Wilkins Park in Queens, NY, that featured performances from the likes of Movado, Machel Montano, John Holt, I-Octane, Kenneth “Baby Face” Edmonds” and Monica.

The company’s support also made the EVERYBODY’S Calypso & Soca Tent-Revue at the Tropical Paradise Ballroom that featured the world’s top calypso & soca superstars, such as The Mighty Sparrow, the Calypso King of the World, Shadow, Becket, Denyse Plummer, Rikki Jai and Edwin Yearwood, from August 29th – September 2nd, a reality; along with Brass Fest on Friday, September 2 at the grounds of the Brooklyn Museum in Brooklyn, NY, which saw thousands of Caribbean music fans jump and wave with LIME to the music of the 2011 Carnival King Machel Montano & Kes The Band, Patrice Roberts, Farmer Nappy and WCR. LIME also reinforced their commitment to family with the support of the Kiddies Carnival at the Brooklyn Museum grounds Saturday – as thousands of children proudly parade in their carnival costumes.

The telecommunications giant also returned for the second consecutive year as the platinum sponsor of the Caribbean Netball Association’s (CANA) Summer Netball League and Caribbean Cup 2011, which featured teams representing Jamaica, Grenada, Trinidad & Tobago, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Sri Lanka and Barbados. The round-robin Caribbean Cup tournament this past Sunday, September 11th, 2011, brought the curtain down on the summer long netball carnival which kicked off on June 4th at the Lincoln Terrace Park in Brooklyn, New York. LIME’s sponsorship included uniforms, prizes, and telecommunications services for the tournament at the various games that took place over the summer.
