Diwali Parade For Queens, NY

News Americas, QUEENS, NY, Fri. Oct. 26, 2012: Caribbean Hindus in Queens will celebrate Diwali early next month.

The Divya Jyoti Association of NYC will hold its annual Diwali Motorcade in Richmond Hill, NY on November 10, 2012 on Liberty Avenue.

The official holiday of Diwali, or the festival of lights, is Tuesday, November 13, 2012. Diwali commemorates the return of Lord Rama, along with Sita and Lakshmana, from his 14-year-long exile and vanquishing the demon-king Ravana. In joyous celebration of the return of their king, Hindus believe the people of Ayodhya, the Capital of Rama, illuminated the kingdom with earthen diyas and by bursting firecrackers.
